Here, on
December 29, 1958 18 men under the command of Che Guevara and
armed with rifles and grenades captured a train with 22 wagons
containing 408 heavily armed Batista troops. The battle lasted
one hour and a half. Inside five original wagons a museum about
the batlle has been installed. Outside on a pedestal the
bulldozer that Che's men used to cut the railway line has been
set up. |

museum is inside the former military barracks of Batista's army.
Here these troops surrendered to Che Guevara and the Rebel Army
on January 1, 1959. |

On
December 28, 1988 the Plaza was inaugurated with the sculptural
group "Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara", to commemorate
the thirtieth anniversary of the Battle of Santa Clara. The lay
out of the Plaza and the monumental sculptural group were
designed by Architect Jorge Cao Campos and the sculptor José de
Lázaro Bencomo (Delarra).

Underneath
the statue of Che Guevara at the Plaza de la Revolucion you will
find the memorial to Ernesto Che Guevara. The Memorial itself
holds the remains of Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara and his
comrades in the Bolivian War. It was designed by the architects
Blanca Hernández Guivernau and Jorge Cao Campos and inaugurated
on October 17, 1997. |

the backside of the Statue of Che Guevara at the Plaza de la
Revolucion you can find the "Museo Historico de la
Revolucion" In the museum different stages of the life of
Che Guevara are covered, including his childhood, adolescence
and youth. The Museum was projected by Architect Blanca
Hernández Guivernau. |
